Class Descriptions
Tutu Tots (Ballet/Tap)
These purposefully designed classes for children ages 2-3 years old allow young dancers to be introduced to preliminary ballet technique and basic dance movements utilizing age appropriate songs and nursery rhymes. This program stimulates the body and mind connection while exploring fun and creative movement. Children also explore and have fun making music with their feet! Tap dance allows children to develop a keen sense of timing, rhythm, coordination and musicality ~ essential for dance.
Kindy Combo (Ballet/Tap)
These purposefully designed classes for children ages 4-5 years old allow young dancers to be introduced to preliminary ballet technique and basic dance movements utilizing age appropriate songs through the visionary Groundforce Technique. This program stimulates the body and mind connection while exploring fun and creative movement. Children also explore and have fun making music with their feet! Tap dance allows children to develop a keen sense of timing, rhythm, coordination and musicality ~ essential for dance.
Kindy Combo (Acro/Hip Hop)
These purposefully designed classes allow children ages 4-5 years old to be introduced to basic acrobatic foundations and energetic hip hop dance movements utilizing age appropriate songs. This program stimulates the body and mind connection while exploring fun and creative movement.
Ballet
Our classical ballet teachers are highly skilled and trained professionals. Students receive a rewarding and exciting experience in the technique of classical ballet, from the study of arm and body positions to the "barre". Here, the fundamentals like ballet exercises, core practice & dance step combinations reinforce traditional classical ballet.
Pointe
Pointe is the most highly disciplined and physically challenging extension of ballet. Only technically proficient upper level students who have mastered the skills of basic and advanced movement will be selected to study pointe work. Physicality, stamina, stability and strength will all be considered criteria. It is a requirement that all new pointe students register for a minimum of two Classical Ballet/GFT classes per week in order to keep up with the technical demands.
Tap
For students who love to make music with their feet, CSDS offers a detailed and exciting tap dance curriculum that teaches students the art of tap dance with the use of their body as a rhythmical instrument. Emphasizing footwork and sound, our tap classes help to develop agility, musicality and stylized movement. Tap is a recommended class for students as it makes a well-rounded & versatile dancer.
Jazz
CSDS is proud to offer a jazz program that is spirited, contemporary and comprehensive – designed to give students the technique and opportunity to explore various jazz styles from warm-ups to traveling steps and combinations from beginner to advanced. Taking ballet in combination with jazz is highly recommended.
Acro
Acro is a style of dance that combines classical jazz technique with precision acrobatic elements; gymnastics, balances, tumbling and basic contortion. It is highly recommended that acro students also train in a minimum of one other dance style to compliment their movement abilities. During class students will work on handstands, chest & elbow stands as well as walkovers, cartwheels and tumbling. Acro students must have a very good base and understanding of strength and flexibility to meet the challenges and demands on the body, therefore it is highly encouraged to attend the Groundforce Technique class at the appropriate level as well.
Hip Hop
CSDS offers a very high energy "leave your attitude on the dance floor" hip hop program. Students dance to today’s popular music. Emphasis is on fun, freestyle movement, body isolations, coordination, rhythm and more.
Lyrical
Lyrical dance offers students the opportunity to blend ballet and jazz movement together to artistically interpret the lyrics of the music. Students enjoy the challenge of creating and storytelling through movement. Lyrical encourages students to develop a stronger sense of their own artistic expression.
Contemporary
Contemporary dance is a modern mix of theatre dance styles that is not limited to one specific dance technique. Contemporary is the study of movement as it relates to the human body and body/mind connection. It is fresh, stimulating and risk-taking.
Groundforce Technique (GFT)
Exclusive to CSDS are the Groundforce Technique (GFT) classes. In these classes you will increase your flexibility & strength by improving your technical skills and staying motivated, inspired and feeling totally empowered! Building a strong, solid and safe foundation is the key to peak performance and the longevity of a dancer’s body. This unique vision & training table is unparalleled to any other program in the dance-training world. It focuses on safe, highly effective and healthy training in a fun, learning environment for all levels. First and foremost is the settling in of a solid foundation right from the start with qualified, certified teachers. The program is continually presenting and encouraging students to meet new challenges. In doing so, students gain a true sense of outstanding accomplishment and constant progress. Students of all ages will love this technique and will always be learning.
Pilates
Empowering exercise through body-mind connection ~ Feel the Difference! The Pilates method is a unique form of physical conditioning that enhances strength, flexibility, balance and coordination. When pilates is executed properly, a deep connection between the body and the mind is unified; therefore, you learn how to work with your body rather than against it. Pilates is a core-strengthening workout that is a great physical option for everyone from stay-at-home moms and work-from-home entrepreneurs to professional athletes – and everyone in-between. This class is for you – invest in yourself!
Yoga
A mindful, medium-paced class that is both accessible and challenging, with fluid movement and conscious breath. Creative sequencing of poses that flow together finding the perfect balance between strength and stretch.
